3 SARP awards for Breweries

The Association of Polish Architects announced the winners of the competition for the best architectural facility completed by the end of 2020. Among them - Browary Warszawskie, which received awards in three categories: multi-family residential building, public space and GRAND PRIX :)

The jury of the competition appreciated the Breweries in the following categories:

  • Public space - Warsaw Breweries

The award was granted for the solution that binds the area of "Browary Warszawskie", i.e. a system of public spaces created as a network of streets, including the historic part of Krochmalna Street - with hardly experienced urban planning. In the post-war years, it was cut into several unconnected fragments, as well as squares and gardens, integrated into the existing urban fabric between Grzybowska and Chłodna Streets. The preserved buildings of the former Brewery were perfectly used as junctions, and all elements have been optimally connected and function as a common, complementary system. As a result, the designers managed to create a fragment of a modern city, integrated with the surrounding areas of the district, a fragment with a specific function and character, but referring, using modern solutions and materials, to the history of the place and its industrial character.

  • Multi-family residential building - Apartments at the Malthouse in Warsaw Breweries

The award was granted for the solutions adopted, which result in the character of the building being created by an interesting façade, which was made of pull-apart panels - shutters, filled with copper-colored aluminum mesh. This idea is a contemporary form referring to the former buildings of the Malthouse, i.e. the malt house of the Warsaw Breweries. The use of contemporary solutions that have entered into a dialogue with historical industrial assumptions in an extremely successful way. The possibility of manual adjustment of the position of these elements makes the facade sparkle in the light and change depending on the preferences of the residents.
In the basic position, the panels will be slightly bent, which diversifies the facade drawing and introduces light and shade effects. The walls behind the shutters are finished with gray plaster, creating a neutral background for the shutters. This characteristic, industrial building has become a formal point of reference for the designed development, which, according to the plan, repeats its stepped outline on the south side and the formula of the highest, narrower façades than the rest of the building.
