Browar Warszawski

Vats filled with seasonal brews

Summer casks in full swing at Browar Warszawski.

TASTE THE TRUE FLAVOUR OF SUMMER

Browar Warszawski is about to celebrate its first anniversary. First year in business and first grade indeed. First grade because it has already been awarded some impressive and quite significant awards in the most prestigious beer competitions. To celebrate this occasion, Browar Warszawski has decided to launch a couple of seasonal home-brewed beers, which have the potential to also soon get the attention and praise of beer jury members at crucial brewery industry events.

Brewery vats and fermentors foretell a memorable summer indeed. The breweres have included all types of beer buffs in their seasonal offers filled with a variety of locally brewed beers. Now, let's start from the beginning.

First and foremost: a childhood flavoured... beer?

To begin with, a rarity for those (adults) who'd like to bring back their childhood flavours on Children's Day. Do you remember Donald Duck or Turbo bubble gum? Browar Warszawski has gone all in and decided to remind you of these flavours in a slighly different, liquid form.

„Bubble gum beer” will be available on Children's Day, but only for adults and in veeeery limited amount of only two 30-litre kegs. The flavour is mainly a combination of banana, strawberry, passion fruit and orange, topped with bubble gum flavours. Donald Duck gum? Turbo? Maybe some others? There's only one way to find out – and we strongly advise you to hurry, because in all likelihood this beer will only be available on Children's Day

Secondly: refreshing notes to combat the heat

Summer is definitely not the season for strong, heavily alcoholic brews. What we look for in the heat is cooling and refreshment. That's why the second new arrival of this draught season at Browar Warszawski will be kegs filled with a limited edition summer beer „Summer Sour”..

Summer beers brewed in the cellars of Browar Warszawski will be sour, acidic at best. They're based on light malts, oat and wheat flakes. The wheat is what makes the beer “slimmer”, “velvety” and “fluffy” contributing to its multi-layer texture that caresses our palates. After adding specific juices and fruit pulp Summer Sour beers turn into a line of exceptional beers that Browar Warszawski has decided to put on the menu this summer. There is, however, one more crucial ingredient that will make these beers reach their full potential (of distinct flavour, acidity and freshness). We're talking about lactic acid bacteria – this will come as no surprise to beer connoisseurs. They're what gives the beer its acidic and yoghurty character.

Thus acidified environment of the wort, together with fresh fruit pulp and juices (the brewery set their eyes on peach, dragon fruit, strawberry, raspberry in the first place, and is currently working on improving their passionfruit-mango and orange-grapefruit combo) will make the heat far more bearable.

Perhaps you have your own combination of fruit flavours that you'd like to try and see added to our next brew? Feel free to let the team know which fruit should be added to the next batch, while visiting Browar next time ;) The team are very open to suggestions, so don't be shy.

Thirdly: sensations  with distillate in the background

For those who don't enjoy a fruity beer, Browar Warszawski has prepared a rather pleasant surprise. The surprise in question is a low fermentation beer Porter Bałtycki  (Baltic Porter) – the result of 'fruitful' cooperation of Browar Warszawski with „Taste of Whisky”.

It's a stout aged in Scottish whisky casks. To be specific, American oak casks that were used for the maturation of 22- and 24-year-old whisky prior.

The cask used to mature the distillate has a peculiar character that does the job. The distillate had enough time to penetrate the texture of the cask's wood, especially the one that was used in the process of maturation since 1976. Nearly fifty years of direct contact with different distillates translate to  flavour pallette and aroma of the stout maturing in them now.

The stout will be served in three different versions – „sauté”, the basic variant, and porter matured in two different whisky casks. Moreover, true connoisseurs will have the opportunity to taste a limited  amount of those distillates that used to mature in the casks earlier, so you can sip on the stout, compare it with the whisky and 'sense' which elements of the pure Scottish distillate have influenced the aged porter.

We'd like to emphasize that even though Baltic Porter will be launched in the summer for the first time, it will only officially be featured on the regular menu of Browar Warszawski's craft brews in the autumn-winter season.

Fourthly:  a very hoppy IPA

The last “novelty” of this summer will be an IPA, New England IPA to be specific. As the name suggests, the mash bill of this beer includes oat malt together with oat and wheat flakes, which are responsible for the ale's “thick” velvety texture.

In the artisanal process of brewing, New England IPA has been infused with a decent amount of new-wave types of American hops. It is those hops that the ale owes its specific aroma to, a feature that is sure to become a distinctive one for this new seasonal brew from Browar Warszawski.

To sum up, this summer at Browar Warszawski is looking fresh. There will be sour beers that perfectly quench your thirst on hot summer days. Your time to taste them all is limited – Baltic Porter will be served in limited amounts, similarily to its bubble gum beer counterpart that will be on the menu on Children's Day and possibly only then.

As for more distant future, Browar Warszawski is planning joint ventures with other breweries. You will know firsthand about the results of such partnerships once they come to fruition, available in bottles and on draught.
