Ceremonial finale of the 7th We Want Jazz International Poster Competition returns to Warsaw Breweries
Honoring the winners, the opening of an exhibition of the best posters, and a concert by the band Siema Ziemia — that’s what’s planned for the finale of this year’s We Want Jazz International Poster Competition. The event will take place on Sunday, September 21 in the Central Garden of Warsaw Breweries. Free admission.
Warsaw Breweries are hosting the competition finale for the second time; the event is organized by the EuroJAZZ Foundation. - About seven hundred artists from around the world entered this year’s edition, titled IN JAZZ WE HOPE. Choosing the best was extremely difficult because we evaluated more than two thousand works by artists who perfectly captured what is most important in jazz: freedom of expression, creativity and the ability to convey emotions through sound. We selected 30 of the best works for the final exhibition, including 3 main prizes and 12 distinctions. They can be viewed while strolling along the Haberbusch and Schiele woonerf - says Agnieszka Holwek, Vice President of the EuroJAZZ Foundation and a juror in the competition.
The awards ceremony for the 7th We Want Jazz International Poster Competition and the opening of the exhibition will take place at 5:30 PM, and at 6:00 PM the Siema Ziemia concert will begin. Siema Ziemia is an electroacoustic quartet made up of Andrzej Konieczny, Fryderyk Szulgit, Kacper Krupa (Skalpel Big Band) and Paweł Stachowiak (EABS, Błoto). The band is known for genre-bending experiments, blending free jazz improvisation with breakbeat, IDM, techno, footwork/juke and influences from underground music scenes. The concert will be an opportunity to hear tracks from their new, as-yet-unreleased album.
- Like last year, Warsaw Breweries support the We Want Jazz International Poster Competition. Our space often becomes a meeting place for creators and jazz enthusiasts as well as anyone who wants to experience the unique energy of this music. It was here that the ‘Wola Jazz Festival’ was born, and several times each summer we also organize ‘Jazz for Children’ concerts. An exhibition of posters themed around jazz is a great complement to Warsaw Breweries’ rich cultural program and an excellent opportunity to promote jazz to a wider audience. We believe such initiatives build not only musical awareness but also help integrate the local community, creating a special atmosphere that draws people back, says Milena Nawrat, spokeswoman for Warsaw Breweries and a juror in this year’s We Want Jazz competition.
