So, we can say that pizza is an Italian invention, inspired by the Greek cuisine made famous thanks to the Americans.
World-famous, pizza has not only been hailed as a healthy fast food, but in 2017 it was added to UNESCO's list of Intangible Heritage of Humanity
One thing is for sure - today, pizza is eaten by everyone. Some people love the classic Italian flavor. Others like its American version, full of cheese. There are also fans of pita and pizza's sister - foccaccia. The truth is that it doesn't matter where the first pizza was made, the important thing is that you can try every version at the Warsaw Breweries.
SKĄD POCHODZI PIZZA?
It has been extremely popular around the world for centuries. Commonly known as Italian, it is served every day in every country. Pizza has more than one name, and its nationality is a matter of dispute.
Its history dates back to the 10th century, when a dish called pizza was first served in the Naples area. However, is that makes pizza in fact an Italian invention? Ancient Greeks were known for baking round pies covered with vegetables, herbs and oil from local olives. Even today, tourists visit Greece enjoying the taste of ancient pita. The first pizza served in Naples looked more like the Greek bread filled with toppings than the pizza served in restaurants today.
However, its story doesn't end there. When Columbus brought tomatoes to Europe, it forever changed the recipe for pizza and its further international fate. Italians combined them with basil and mozzarella and made a pizza for their new ruler Margherita. The unique flavor and colors recalling the flag of Italy touched both the royal palate and heart. However, this event did not affect the worldwide popularity of pizza. Italians who were poor decided to immigrate massively to the United States and took the recipe for delicious pizza with them. They began to open the first restaurants in which they served their national aphrodisiac and thus convinced Americans to their dish. Since then, pizza began to conquer the world. Americans known as pioneers of modernity claim that pizza originated in Naples, but it was given to the world by Americans.
