Vineyard trivia:
It is said that only a handful of wines have the capacity of proper 'aging'. The owners of the vineyard opened a 1994 bottle of Dolcetto’ d Alba in 2021, and its contents were exquisite, which confirms our theory that this is a truly royal wine line. What's more, all Fontana corks are made of sugar cane, which guarantees a long shelf life for wines, more so than regular corks. The current vineyard owner's grandfather used to start the day by opening a bottle of Dolcetto’ d Alba – availabe at Piccola – and he claimed that was the only way to live!
PIEDMONT WINE FLAVOURS AT PICCOLA ITALIA & MEDITERRANEO
Any connoiseur will know they're in the right place, if they notice characteristic stripes on wine labels while browsing wine shelves. These are typical of the Italian Fontanafredda wines, a globally recognizable wine brand. The Fontana line wine labels are characterised by horizontal stripes, which are to symbolise Italian royal buildings. Looking back at the vineyard's history, its founding father was the first king of Italy. The first barolo wine was then composed there in 1870. 2018, on the other hand, marks a special achievement for the vineyard – the issuance of a certificate confirming its eco-friendly crops.
Gaining the trust of a vineyard owner is no easy feat. Piccola stores have, however, managed to do achieve it, thereby becoming the only official partner of Fontanafredda wines. The wines are exported to 65 different countries all over the world.
